1. Launch of Leo’s new enterprise - Rainbow Rhythm Circles
Since attending the training session hosted by Arthur Hull in Scotland last October, I have been working hard to develop a new program, separate from Treefrog Percussion, for my endeavors as a drum circle facilitator and leader of drumming workshops.
Thus Rainbow Rhythm Circles was born! And we have a brand new website for you to visit to get familiar with all our programs and workshops. www.rainbowrhythmcircles.com
Please, PLEASE, P L E A S E! Pass this link along to anyone who you think may be interested in booking a rhythm circle or drumming workshop for their school, community, workplace, conference, event or party. I am really trying to kick start this new venture, and every little bit helps.

2. Request for testimonials to add to the new Rainbow Rhythm Circles Website.
If you have enjoyed a rhythm circle or drumming workshop with Leo in the last 12 months and would like to share your feelings or experiences, please send a short testimonial of your experience to share on the new website. Eventually, Leo hopes to have the testimonials section rotate with different testimonials every week. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

4. FREE Drum Lessons/Drum Circle in Orleans hosted by Leo Brooks
Leo is very excited to announce a monthly evening of drumming at his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. These gatherings are hosted by Leo Brooks and his friend Yannick N’Dongmo.
Every evening starts out with about 60 minutes of instruction on basic techniques and rhythms for the djembe, and occasionally other instruments. The evening concludes with time to jam and explore your creativity.
The group is collectively known as the Beat Unit. One of our goals for the group is that we aim to have enough Beat Unit members to join us on the church’s float in the Santa Claus Parade to make some lively rhythmic music. Not professional - just for fun.
The group meets on the LAST Thursday of every month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. It is an open group, and anyone and everyone is invited to attend. If you have a drum, Great! Bring it along. If not, there will always be instruments to play.

14. Samba Classes with Samba Ottawa
Samba Ottawa's Next Beginner Course Starts Sunday September 26!
Whether you want to branch out to a new form of percussion, pick up some basics in this exciting form of Brazilian carnival music, simply improve your sense of rhythm, or just have fun – our Beginner Course is for you! The Fall 2010 session is now open for registration.
This is infectious, highly rhythmic music with African roots which combines different rhythmic patterns played by a number of different percussion instruments. In this course, you will:
· Discover some of the historic and cultural background to this uniquely Brazilian music
· Get a chance to play all the main instruments of the 300-piece (!) Brazilian Carnaval
'baterias' – tamborim, agogo, ganza, and surdo
· Choose which instrument you would like to focus on
· Learn an entire, arranged percussion performance piece – 'Ano Novo'
· Get to meet some of the Samba Ottawa sambistas – and everyone else on the course!
You can hear samples of this music on the Samba Ottawa website:
www.samba-ottawa.org.
Samba Ottawa Community
Samba is a community music. It sounds complex, but it is built up of layers of patterns – some very simple, some more complex – to create an amazing sound, one that allows people to contribute at their own level.
After the course, you may decide to join our own samba community – Samba Ottawa. Apart from the sheer joy of samba, we get our kicks from playing live public performances and sharing that joy and energy.
Whether it's wearing leprechaun Hats in the St Patrick's Day Parade (and we won Best Band in 2009!), lighting up the dark in the Lumiere Festival, wearing your glam and glitter at a night-club gig, or leading the Survivors’ Victory Lap in the Relay for Life, you will have the opportunity to have a lot of fun, meet some great people, and make a great contribution to many groups. The Beginner Course, with its immersive, hands-on approach, gives you a real head start.
Course Details
WHEN: Weekly classes 4 to 6 pm Sundays from Sept 26 to Nov 14 – a total of 7 classes (no class Oct 10)
WHERE: 2nd floor, Old Town Hall Community Centre, 61 Main St. (at Hawthorne), Ottawa
PREREQUISITES: Only a willingness to try (and at least 15 years old) – course is for people of all abilities

TO REGISTER: Online or in person. See www.ottawaeastcag.ca/registration (select Adult Programs and Workshops)
COST: $87 – includes classes, instruments (provided during classes), plus written material and practice CD (for you to keep)

Please call (613-234-1151) or email (miss_izzy@hotmail.com) Isabelle St-Amour if you have any questions.
