Leo LOVES to perform and will eagerly play at any opportunity. While he does not lead his own group, he is the coach and mentor to the Ottawa based group Kunudrum as well as a frequent collaborator with the Gatineau based group Yayé. For many gigs, he joins forces with some of the city’s finest percussionists and dancers. When together Leo calls this group the Landaya Drummers and Dancers. Landaya is a word from the Malinké people of Guinea and Mali which means “Confidence”, and it is this feeling of strength and exuberance which is conveyed in their performances. Some notable players in Landaya have included Mohammed Diarra (Formerly of Guinea’s Ballet Djoliba), Catherine Veilleux, Shara Weaver, Rob Graves, (Dr.) Lee Garbutt and New York's Michael Marcus.

Landaya are typically contracted to perform for events such as fundraising walks, outdoor festivals, school and community picnics and even weddings. Please give them as much notice as possible when thinking about booking the group, as there are a lot of lives to coordinate. A cost of $150 per performer is requested. This amount can be negotiated for some circumstances. The group performs in an ensemble of 3 to 6 people depending on the situation.

The third Annual Evening of Drumming and Dance will take place Friday, November 2, 2007 at the First Unitarian Church at 30 Cleary Ave. This concert showcases Ottawa’s drumming talent. Tickets will be available early in October. $15 per seat as always. Mark it in your calendar. It is not to be missed.
